The British Association of Women Entrepreneurs (Scotland) is deeply saddened by the passing of Vera Weisfeld. Vera was a pioneering businesswoman whose drive and clarity of purpose helped shape the early years of our organisation. As a founding member, she brought practical wisdom, generosity of spirit and a genuine commitment to supporting other women in business.
Vera’s journey began modestly in Coatbridge before she rose, through sheer determination and insight, to co‑found the retail chain What Every Woman Wants with her husband. Under her leadership the business grew to national prominence and pioneered affordable, fashionable retail.
Her achievements in retail were remarkable, but it was her straightforward kindness and willingness to encourage others that many of us will remember most. Vera showed what could be accomplished with focus, hard work and a strong belief in opportunity.
We extend our sincere condolences to her family and all who knew her. Her contribution to BAWE Scotland and to the wider business community will be long remembered.
